I'll be real: Summer fashion is hard for me because a lot of it isn't great on my figure. I think there's an assumption out there that being tall makes it easy to find clothes--because all of those models are tall and why would clothing companies not think it all the way through and only make special sizes for petites? That would be ridiculous! (Except it's true.) I end up feeling half-naked a lot in the summer because things just look so tiny when you have long limbs. Plus my waist is rather boxy and nonexistent, and I need longer silhouettes (like skinny jeans with boots!) to balance it out.
I know I've only said this thirteen thousand times, but skinny jeans and riding boots really are a spectacular combination. They work well together for a lot of body types, plus they can easily be dressed up or down depending on what you pair them with. Throw on a t-shirt to go to the fabric store, and then add a blazer and statement necklace and you're ready for date night. (Personally speaking, a blazer is also a great tool for hiding a not-waist.)
Some of these pieces are a little pricier than what I normally share, but they're versatile basics that you could easily wear for several years. I've done the cheap boot thing in the past and it was a huge pain to replace them all the time. Ditto blazers; you get what you pay for.
Just for fun: two of the above items are already in my closet. Any guesses?
What do you look forward to in the fall? Anybody else prefer layers over summer outfits? What quirks make it hard for you to find clothes? I know I'm not the only waistless wonder out there.
